LGBT Rights
The Green Party in Canada has a very strong track record on LGBT issues. Here is what I will work to do as your green MP for Vancouver Centre.
Better Health Care
There are some big issues and some even say a looming crisis within our healthcare system, especially related to skyrocketing costs. But the solutions are not found in privatizing care and developing a two-tier system.
Affordable Housing
Homelessness, people living on the street – these problems were not always with us. What happened? Bad federal government housing policy has played a large role. I’d work to correct that.
Strong Community
We all want to live in a strong, healthy community, and there are three elements that I think are important to the Green Party and to Vancouver Centre: food security, access to education, and celebrating diversity.
Protecting Wild Salmon
Alexandra Morton of votesalmon.ca has been traveling throughout southern B.C. during the election to ask politicians and candidates where they stand on the protection of wild salmon.
Prepare for Emergencies
Vancouver is one the most livable city in the world – but also one of the most vulnerable. While the Harper government cuts safety funding to buy fighter jets, I’ll work to increase federal emergency preparedness and infrastructure funding.
Energy Security / Climate Action
The majority of Canadians want Canada to take the action needed to meet our international obligations on climate change. As a Green MP in Parliament I will be the champion in Ottawa that Vancouver needs in its pursuit of the “greenest city” vision to be a global leader in climate action.
Smart Economy
Some think the Green Party is only focused on protecting our environment. But we’ve been in the lead pushing for lower taxes on small businesses, on personal income and on green enterprise.
No Oil Port
We are the world’s most livable city thanks largely to a spectacular natural environment. The risk of a major oil spill is very real – it would ruin our world-class environment and devastate our economy.
